What accolades are next for Cardiff’s Number One Hotel?
As the sole hotel from Cardiff listed in Trivago’s Top 20 Hotels in Wales, the Lincoln House Private Hotel carried the torch for the capital city at the inaugural Trivago Top Hotel Awards last year, which uses aggregated online user ratings in order to recognise the best rated hotels in the country.
If you were asked what to name the top rated hotel in Cardiff for the past few years, you may think of large well-known brands such as Hilton or Mercure, or perhaps the iconic St. David’s Hotel in the bay. But, in fact, the family run Lincoln House Private Hotel – situated on the leafy Cathedral Road in Pontcanna – has consistently sat at the top TripAdvisor in the number one spot for the last few years as well as becoming the only hotel in Cardiff to make Trivago’s top 20 Hotels in Wales list.
The lovingly restored Victorian town house has received rave reviews online, being the recipient of TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence for the past 3 years and currently rated as Number 1 out of 77 hotels in Cardiff as well as a Trivago rating of 89.45.
With 21 tastefully decorated en-suite rooms, the hotel also boasts a comfortable resident’s lounge and well-stocked private bar, alongside friendly and knowledgeable staff who are always on hand to provide assistance to make the most of any stay.
The hotel has been recognised for the quality of personal service provided by other awarding bodies, including three Visit Wales Stars, a Gold Award for Customer Care from Welcome Host, and a Gold Award for hygiene from Cardiff City Council.
Owners Kathleen and Neil Howard acquired the hotel in 1997 and have spent considerable time refurbishing and restoring the grand building into a modern & comfortable hotel, whilst still maintaining the authentic feel of a Victorian town house. This has made the hotel a popular choice for those in Cardiff for both leisure and business. The hotel is additionally frequently chosen by A-list names from the world of entertainment while working or filming in South Wales.
The owners’ son Matthew manages the running of the hotel and recognises the importance of maintaining a positive online reputation. Matthew says: “We’re absolutely delighted and very thankful that our guests feel strongly enough about having a positive experience at our hotel that they take the time to leave a comment and review online.
“Websites such as TripAdvisor and Trivago let us know what we are doing right and also shape changes we can make. For instance, as a result of constructive criticism about our internet speeds, we have since ensured that hi-speed wifi is now available throughout our hotel.”
As for the secret of their success, perhaps it’s the well-received full welsh breakfast that is included with every stay, or the fact that the hotel is located a short walk from the city centre, yet is lucky enough to have the wide range of fantastic eateries in Pontcanna on their doorstep. Regardless, the positive reviews continue to stream in, with many guests believing they’ve truly found Cardiff’s hidden gem.
